Has Weight Gain Changed My Life? Kris’ success story
Today we have another success story from Mark’s Daily Apple Reader. If you have your own success story and would like to share it with me and the Mark’s Daily Apple community, please contact me here. Thank you for reading!
This may sound strange, but I often say that weight gain actually changed my life – for the better!
No, not because I was too thin, but because the changes I made to lose that weight have given me my life back.
A few years ago I had lost over 50 pounds by exercising less, more of typical food (what I now call the “old fashioned” way). It was a lot of work, but I lost the weight and even kept it for a couple of years. I thought I was good to go.
But then, despite the fact that I was still doing the same things I had done to lose the weight – micromanaging everything I ate and exercising 6 days a week – I started gaining weight again, and pretty quickly to gain weight.
I was frustrated, scared, and at a loss. This is what I was always told to lose weight, but now it stopped working. What do I do now?? Eat even less? Train more?
A friend introduced me to Primal and I started reading everything I could. The success stories were so inspiring!
After a few months – yes months – I hesitated because grains and beans were a big part of my diet. And I was a picky eater so I thought I would starve to death if I had to get rid of these.
But I got to the point that I knew I had to try, I didn’t know any other option.
And you know what? It wasn’t that hard and I definitely didn’t starve! I liked the food I ate and didn’t miss the other stuff as much as I imagined! I found that the main thing I missed was the convenience of things like bread and tortillas instead of actually missing them. But there are great original and keto-friendly ways to bypass this convenience piece.
It wasn’t long before I noticed the difference. The weight dropped (without ever being hungry, which was HUGE!) But that wasn’t even the best part. I felt so much better. My digestive problems went away. The bone and joint pain that I attributed to aging had disappeared. Allergies improved dramatically. I had more energy, I slept better, and I stopped riding the blood sugar roller coaster.
And over time (this definitely wasn’t overnight), I was actually able to take off all of the anti-anxiety and depression medications – something I never thought possible. I feel better and stronger now than ever – even through the craziness of 2020.
I would never have seen these changes if I hadn’t gained weight again.
Eating in this way (eventually including keto) changed my life in so many ways that I actually made up my mind to become a Primal Health Coach so that I can help others make the same changes and stop struggling got to.
I am a life now! And to think I was once afraid to give up grain. Now I can’t imagine eating them again!
Thanks again Mark for all you do!
Thanks for telling us your story, Kris. You are an inspiration to us all, and stories like yours remind me of why I do what I do. Grok on!
