Transitioning from vegetarianism and becoming less dependent on medication: Polly Wolfe’s success story
Today we have another success story from Mark’s Daily Apple Reader. If you have your own success story and would like to share it with me and the Mark’s Daily Apple community, please contact me here. Thank you for reading!
Type 2 diabetes is very common in my family, so this was the impetus to get well. Learning about Primal and the keto diet helped me with this.
I’ve lost 27 pounds since my blood count showed I was prediabetic. I didn’t understand insulin resistance and went in that direction. I had neuropathy in my feet but I didn’t know what it was. It’s gone now. I had knee pain. Path. I have arthritis in my finger – no problems with it now.
My triglycerides were super high and my protein was low. I’ve been a vegetarian for half my life (now 62, female). It is very easy as a vegetarian to become addicted to carbohydrates and not eat enough protein. I have always found meat gross and eating again is not an option, although now I will be eating tuna again and will try salmon.
This diet changed my life! I bought the strips and I’m in ketosis! I have never eaten this good before. I am never really hungry and I have more energy than I have in years! I’m happy again. I’m strong again. I am responsible for my health. I also did the HIIT workouts. Love her. They give me a boost to get things done.
I lost 30 pounds. between the two photos. The last 10 goes off very slowly, but my cholesterol improved and my triglycerides went up from 230 to 114, from prediabetic to normal.
The best news is that my thyroid medication has been cut in half, as has my diuretic. My blood pressure has just gone up and it seems I don’t need all of the thyroid medication I get. My NP says I could very well take off all of my medication. (I had to suggest the medical changes to my NP based on videos and google information. The office has little help and it’s overhauled. Finding people who have the data is important!)
Thank you for everything you are doing to educate people about this life changing way of eating! I’ve seen your interview with Tom Bilyeu at least four times to fully understand the science of keto. As a retired high school English teacher, I teach people through my FB page because there is nothing like knowing that you are changing people’s lives in all the most important ways. It’s the only way to live I also got friends to try keto. A friend lost 18 pounds in 6 weeks!
Ps medication update: I no longer have a diuretic. I’m weaning a beta blocker that stole magnesium, causing my blood pressure to rise! I am on Lisinopril 5 mg now and I will very likely move away from it in the near future.
Amazing work, Polly. I know making changes with so many physical problems couldn’t have been easy. Thank you for believing in yourself. We post stories like yours so others can see that changes are possible too!
